About iMediSync and the technology

What does iMediSync do?

iMediSync brings brain recording, quantitative EEG analysis, and heart rate variability reporting into one connected workflow. Our portable headsets collect the data, iSyncBrain turns EEG recordings into quantitative brain maps and reports, and iSyncHeart analyzes heart rate variability. Qualified professionals review the results alongside a person's symptoms, history, and other assessment findings.

What is the difference between EEG and qEEG?

EEG records electrical brain activity through sensors on the scalp. Quantitative EEG, or qEEG, applies mathematical analysis to that recording, organizing it into measurements and brain maps. These can show brainwave power, frequency patterns, connectivity, and differences from a reference population.

How are iSyncWave and iSyncMe different?

Both headsets record 19 channels of dry EEG arranged according to the international 10–20 system, covering frontal, central, temporal, parietal, and occipital regions, and both include integrated near-infrared PBM. iSyncMe has a lighter design and a different fit range. Device dimensions, supported tablets, and available configurations differ, so our team can help you compare the models for your patients and intended use.

Does the headset need gel?

The EEG electrodes do not require conductive gel or paste. You still need to prepare the patient, fit the headset correctly, and check electrode contact. Cleaning the forehead and ear contact areas and adjusting the electrodes can help obtain a usable recording.

Which iMediSync functions are FDA cleared?

iSyncWave is FDA 510(k) cleared for EEG acquisition under K220056. iSyncBrain-C is separately cleared for statistical EEG analysis under K222838. These clearances do not extend to every feature in the platform. PBM and the aMCI classifier are not FDA cleared or approved. See our regulatory information for product-specific details.

The EEG session

What happens during an EEG session, and how long does it take?

A trained operator prepares the contact areas, fits the headset, connects it to the tablet, and checks signal quality. You then sit quietly while EEG is recorded, usually with separate eyes-open and eyes-closed periods. Once the recording is uploaded, your report is ready in about 10 minutes, because our AI-powered processing automatically identifies and removes artifacts, so there is no lengthy manual data cleaning before results are available. Your provider then reviews the results with you.

How should I prepare for a scan?

Arrive with clean hair and scalp, without styling products, and aim for a normal night's sleep. Follow your clinic's instructions about caffeine, alcohol, and meals. Do not stop or change prescribed medication unless your prescribing clinician specifically directs you to; instead, provide an accurate list of medications and supplements so the recording can be interpreted in context. The recording recommendations explain preparation in more detail.

Can children use the system?

Yes. iSyncWave can be used with children ages 6 and up, and iSyncMe with children ages 4 and up. Suitability also depends on the child's head size, comfort, and ability to participate, so your provider should confirm the appropriate device, protocol, and report. Our pediatric scan guide offers practical ideas for helping children, including those with sensory sensitivities, feel comfortable during the visit.

Reports and results

What can an iSyncBrain report show?

Depending on the report selected, results may include brainwave power, frequency ratios, alpha peak frequency, normative comparisons, connectivity, and source-level maps. Alongside detailed clinical reports, many of our reports are designed to be client-facing, with clear visuals and plain-language summaries that make results easy for patients and families to understand and discuss with their provider. Explore the sample report gallery to see the available formats.

Can iSyncBrain diagnose ADHD, depression, or dementia?

iSyncBrain does not make a diagnosis on its own. Instead, it gives providers objective, EEG-based biomarker data that they can use, together with symptoms, history, diagnostic criteria, and other appropriate testing, to reach their own clinical conclusions. The 5 Key Indicators report is an additional AI-based report and is not FDA cleared as a diagnostic test for ADHD, depression, anxiety, or other psychiatric disorders. The aMCI classifier is not FDA cleared or approved and is intended for investigational, research, or educational use.

Can my provider review results from another location?

Yes. iSyncBrain is cloud-based, allowing authorized providers to review uploaded EEG analyses remotely. This can support satellite offices, multi-location practices, and telehealth follow-up, with trained staff collecting data in one location and a qualified clinician reviewing it elsewhere.

HRV, PBM, and neurofeedback

What is HRV, and can it be measured alongside EEG?

Heart rate variability, or HRV, describes variation in the time between heartbeats. iSyncHeart uses a pulse signal from a PPG sensor to calculate HRV-related measurements, and the system collects that signal alongside EEG, so both can be recorded in the same appointment. HRV provides physiological information but cannot diagnose stress, anxiety, or depression on its own; iSyncHeart's depression and anxiety models are not FDA cleared for diagnostic use.

What is photobiomodulation (PBM), and what does "qEEG-guided PBM" mean?

PBM uses light to influence biological processes. iSyncWave and iSyncMe use 850 nm near-infrared LEDs at 19 locations, with adjustable pulse frequencies from 1–45 Hz. PBM is separate from EEG measurement, and in the United States this function is not FDA cleared or approved to treat a disease or medical condition. In a qEEG-guided approach, a professional considers EEG findings together with the person's history, goals, and response when selecting and reviewing a PBM approach; a brain map does not automatically determine a treatment prescription. The PBM manual and protocol guide are in our Resources Hub.

What is neurofeedback, and how is it different from PBM?

Neurofeedback uses real-time EEG feedback, such as changes in a game or media, to support brain self-regulation training. PBM delivers near-infrared light. They use different methods, even when the same headset is part of both workflows. iMediSync devices work with BrainAssistant by brainboost for neurofeedback, using the tablet LSL application and a computer on the same Wi-Fi network.

Getting started

Can I use iSyncBrain with EEG equipment I already own?

Yes. Supported third-party EEG recordings can be uploaded for analysis through iSyncBrain-R, our web-based analysis option. Check the compatible devices list and confirm your amplifier and file requirements with our team; compatibility depends on the specific system and recording.

How much does an iMediSync system cost?

We offer a range of hardware and software options, so pricing depends on what your practice needs, whether that's a full headset-and-software setup, analysis for EEG equipment you already own, or add-on reports and features. The best way to find the right fit is to request a demo. We'll walk you through the system, learn about your practice, and put together pricing tailored to your goals.

Can my practice bill insurance for EEG or qEEG?

Coverage depends on the service performed, medical necessity, documentation, provider qualifications, and the payer's rules. FDA clearance does not guarantee reimbursement. Our CPT reference is informational; your billing professional should verify current requirements, including actual recording time, before submitting a claim.

What training resources are available?

Our Resources Hub includes recording guides, manuals, sample reports, and educational material. The webinar archive covers EEG, interpretation, HRV, PBM, and clinical workflows, and live workshops are listed on the Events page. Ask our team what onboarding is included with your purchase.

How do I request a demo or get help?

Use our contact form, email us-marketing@imedisync.com, or call 720-466-5410. For technical help, include your device model and serial number, tablet model, app version, and a description of the issue so the team can direct your request appropriately.
